Performing at small venue of The Back Yard in Bee Cave, Texas, I was granted full access by Billy Gibbons to photography ZZ Top. Typically, a photographer gets to shoot the first three songs from the front of the stage, then you’re out, but I was able to go anywhere I wanted. This shot came about as I was stage left standing with Billy’s then guitar tech (now the bass player as he stepped up to fill the shoes of Dusty Hill when he passed away). In between songs Billy had just taken his guitar from around his neck to switch out for another one when a gust of wind came through blowing his beard. Everything came together in that instant. The photography gods were on my side that night, and the moment I clicked the shutter I knew I had something special. This photo has been used all over the world in ZZ Top promotions, is hanging in the Four Seasons bar in Dallas, and is still featured on the official ZZ Top website.
